ADHD and Autism Assessment Update

Due to increasing demand, NHS Kent and Medway has introduced changes to how ADHD and autism assessment services are prioritised during 2026/27.

What patients and families need to know:

• Referrals are not being stopped.
However, providers have limits on the number of assessments and appointments they can offer.

• Priority will be given to:
People with the greatest clinical need, those who have already started their assessment or treatment pathway, and those who have been waiting the longest.

• For routine referrals:
It is unfortunately unlikely that an assessment will take place before April 2027.

• Once a referral has been made:
Patients do not need to contact their GP practice for waiting-list updates. The assessment provider will contact them directly when further information is available.

Support is available whether or not you have received a formal diagnosis:

Total Triage

Please be aware that from 15th June 2026, our practice will be moving to a Total Triage model of care.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we introduce this new way of accessing care

Contacting us

When you contact the practice, you may be signposted by a member of our Patient Support Team to the most appropriate service. This may include community pharmacy, opticians, self-referral or a clinician within the practice.  Please note that the Patient Support Team are working under the direction of the Doctor, and you may be asked to provide information to help them signpost you appropriately.

Please note that prescription requests are not taken over the telephone. Prescription requests by phone are only accepted between 2pm and 4pm, and only if you are over 65 years of age or recorded as housebound.

Requests for repeat medication can be made using the NHS App, Patient Access App, via our dedicated prescriptions e-mail (kmicb.scripts@nhs.net) or by visiting the surgery.

We recommend signing up to the NHS App. The app allows you to view your medical records, check test results, order repeat prescriptions, and manage appointments quickly and securely.

For non-urgent enquiries, you can email us at edn.g82682@nhs.net
